Medium Access Control Protocol Design, Analysis and Identification in Cognitive Radio Networks
نویسنده
چکیده
Cognitive Radio (CR) is a promising technique to address the spectrum scarcity issue by enabling the unlicensed network users (SUs) to dynamic access the spectrum holes. This thesis designs Medium Access Control (MAC) protocols for SUs to utilize the unused spectrum without interfering the licensed network users’ (PUs) transmissions; analyzes the MAC performance based on the queuing theories; and identifies the PU’s and SU’s MAC protocol types using machine learning techniques in order to implement smart cognitive radio.

Multi-channel Medium Access Control Protocols for Wireless Sensor Networks: A Survey
Extensive researches on Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) have been performed and many techniques have been developed for the data link (MAC) layer. Most of them assume single-channel MAC protocols. In the usual dense deployment of the sensor networks, single-channel MAC protocols may be deficient because of radio collisions and limited bandwidth. Hence, using multiple channels can significantly ...

متن کاملA Sensing Error Aware MAC Protocol for Cognitive Radio Networks
Cognitive radios (CR) are intelligent radio devices that can sense the radio environment and adapt to changes in the radio environment. Spectrum sensing and spectrum access are the two key CR functions. In this paper, we present a spectrum sensing error aware MAC protocol for a CR network collocated with multiple primary networks. We explicitly consider both types of sensing errors in the CR MA...
متن کاملMedium Access Control Design for Cognitive Radio Networks: A Survey
Designing a medium access control (MAC) protocol is a key for implementing any practical wireless network. In general, a MAC protocol is responsible for coordinating users in accessing spectrum resources. Given that a user in cognitive radio(CR) networks do not have priority in accessing spectrum resources, MAC protocols have to perform dynamic spectrum access (DSA) functions, including spectru...
متن کاملPerformance analysis of CSMA-based opportunistic medium access protocol in cognitive radio sensor networks
Given the highly variable physical layer characteristics in cognitive radio sensor networks (CRSN), it is indispensable to provide the performance analysis for cognitive radio users for smooth operations of the higher layer protocols. Taking into account the dynamic spectrum access, this paper formulates the two fundamental performance metrics in CRSN; bandwidth and delay. The performance is an...
